Whether it's an author like Seth Godin, an entrepreneur like Loic Le Meur or even a chef like Elise Bauer, they all use their name to distinguish themselves and attract a unique audience in the online spectrum. How do they make themselves so prominent? Not by putting up flashy ads or inundating people with their services, but they do it by simply registering their name as a domain name. How long have you been blogging for?

I've only been blogging for a few months now. I never really intended to write a regular blog, it just happened that way.

What got you interested in social media?

As a freelance writer, I come across numerous blogging jobs. Many of them required experience and I had none - blogging didn't interest me much. But a job is a job, so I started one after making a deal to try it out for one particular company. In the end I didn't want my blog to only be a reflection of what they asked for, so I dropped them and made it my own random blog.

What topics do you normally blog about?

A lot of the time, my blog entries revolve around my bouts of depression and low days. Other than that it's a mix of whatever is on my mind, whether it be music, relationships, my ongoing inner war with myself, or whatever pops into my head and I feel the need to put it into words.

What do you want visitors to your site to learn or takeaway?

From feedback that I've gotten from readers - friends and strangers alike - I receive a lot of similar comments. "You're funny, but I agree with the seriousness of your subject" seems to be the general concensus. I don't take my blog too seriously, it's the antithesis of a writing job to me. When people read it, they're just taking a look at one compartment in the head of some crazy Canadian chick. If they enjoy it, identify with it, or even if it just distracts them for a minute, that's fine with me.

Do you have any tips for people who have just started blogging?

Every blog is different. Just because you read one that brings in tons of traffic and diehard readers doesn't mean that yours need to be a carbon copy. Write for yourself, not necessarily for the masses.
